Bruins to Host UC San Diego on Saturday
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA swim and dive team hits the resume button on its dual meet schedule on Saturday, Jan. 8, hosting UC San Diego at Spieker Aquatics Center starting at 12:00 p.m. PT.
The competition will be the Bruins' first home meet since Oct. 30, first dual meet since Nov. 6, and first competition of any kind since the weekend of Dec. 17-19.
UCLA is 2-2 so far in dual meets in 2021-22, capturing decisive wins over UC Santa Barbara (167-92) and Washington State (169-91). Saturday marks the Bruins' second, and final, scheduled non-conference dual meet for the campaign.
Most recently, UCLA scored a decisive first-place finish at the UNLV Invitational, winning 15 of 19 events overall including a 5-for-5 effort in relays. Delaney Smith (200 IM, 200 free), Claire Grover (50 free, 100 free), and Sophia Kosturos (100 fly, 100 IM) led the way with multiple individual event wins.
For her efforts in Las Vegas, Grover was named the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week as well as a nominee for the Pac-12 December Swimmer of the Month Award. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native figured in five event wins for the Bruins (two individual, three relay) while recording the fastest split of any swimmer in the field for each of the three relays in which she swam.
The visiting Tritons are 3-0 in dual meets so far this year, with wins coming against UCSB, Claremont Mudd Scripps, and UC Davis.
All-time, UCLA is 2-0 in dual meets against UC San Diego. In the most-recent matchup, the Bruins downed the Tritons on the road, 182-79, on Jan. 3, 2020.
