Pac-12 women's volleyball Diversity Mentorship Program participants named for 2022

Jan 10, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 announced today selections for the conference's women's volleyball Diversity Mentorship Program in 2022.

Winston-Salem State head coach Chanel Davis, University of Arkansas at Monticello head coach Jocelyn Garcia, UC San Diego assistant coach Jaye Loyd and Tennessee State head coach Donika Sutton were selected as mentees for the program's second year. Davis will be paired with Oregon State head coach Mark Barnard, Garcia with Colorado's Jesse Mahoney, Loye with Washington State's Jen Greeny, and Sutton with Utah's Beth Launiere. The quartet will receive hands-on experience, regularly meeting with assigned coaching staffs and program administrators, along with traveling for in-person meetings with their mentors.

The applicant pool consisted of minority graduating seniors and coaches who are early in their careers, passionate about coaching women's volleyball, and interested in getting experience at the highest collegiate level. Pac-12 women’s volleyball coaching staffs collectively launched the Diversity Mentorship Program in October 2020 with the aim of strengthening the pool of minority candidates for collegiate head and assistant coaching positions in NCAA Division I women’s volleyball.

Additional elements of the Diversity Mentorship Program include six live-lesson and discussion sessions with True North Sports’ leadership development and AVCA membership and educational and diversity programming at the organization’s annual convention. The mentees serve in non-coaching capacities, and all elements are funded through Pac-12 coaching staffs as well as donations from friends of Pac-12 women’s volleyball programs.
