Barminski, Bing & Secco Travel to Chile For Pan-American Cup

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford field hockey assistant coach Michael Barminski and alumnae Kelsey Bing '20 and Maddie Secco '16 have traveled to Santiago, Chile for the 2022 Pan-American Cup. Barminski and the United States men's team can qualify for the World Cup this summer in India, while Bing (USA) and Secco (Canada) can clinch a berth to the World Cup in Spain.

Barminski has made 91 career appearances for the United States national team, and will head to his first Pan-American cup since joining the Stanford field hockey program over the summer. The event in Chile is his fourth Pan-American games, where he looks to add to his collection of medals with the team. The United States took bronze in 2017 and 2019 in Pennsylvania and Peru, respectively.

Bing is one of two goalkeepers selected for the event, and enters the tournament having made 29 previous appearances for the United States national team. A decorated athlete at Stanford whose tenure included three America East Championships and two All-America selections, in addition to numerous academic honors including an Academic All-America honor in 2020, Bing will compete in her first Pan-American cup for the senior team.

Secco was a two-time NFHCA All-Region selection during her time on The Farm as well as a two-time All-NorPac conference honoree. She has 125 career appearances for Canada, and has previously earned the bronze medal at the 2013 and 2015 Pan-American Cups. Secco scored 23 goals with 32 assists over her Stanford career.

The No. 24-ranked United States men's team opens competition on Thursday, January 20 against No. 37 Trinidad and Tobago, with matches to follow against No. 11 Canada and No. 30 Mexico.

The 15th-ranked United States women's team begins play on Wednesday, January 19 against No. 32 Peru, with contests to follow against No. 13 Canada and No. 30 Mexico. No. 13 Canada opens with No. 30 Mexico before facing the United States and Peru.
