LOS ANGELES – The UCLA dive team is set to host the 2022 Bruin Diving Invitational this weekend at Spieker Aquatics Center. The three-day event runs Friday through Sunday, with competition beginning each day at 10:30 a.m. PT.
The invite is part of a busy January for the swim & dive program, which also hosts a trio of dual meets this month at Spieker.
This weekend's invite features divers from 11 different schools. Fresno State, San Diego State, Nebraska, and Northern Arizona will bring only women's divers, while UNLV, Stanford, Wyoming, Cal Baptist, USC, and UC San Diego will compete on both the men's and women's sides.
As many as 45 entries are projected on the women's side of the invite, with as many as 16 projected for the men.
Real-time results will be available at DiveMeets.com. Admission to the event is free all three days.
The Bruins excelled at the 2021 version of the invitational, with Hannah Butler capturing the 1M title and Katie Shaheen and Aurora Huxman placing 2-3 in the platform championship.
Butler has continued to perform at a high-level thus far in 2021-22, already double-qualifying for Zones and notching lifetime-bests in both 1M (312.90) and 3M (34.78) during last weekend's dual meet against UCSD. Similarly, freshman Zoe Jespersgaard has qualified for Zones in both springboard events, eclipsing the 300-point mark for the first time in her young career during last weekend's competition against the Tritons. UCLA's third entry this weekend – freshman Maya Salvitti – came up just short of a Zones-qualifying score in 1M against the Tritons.
This year, the action begins with women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter on Friday. The next day includes women's 3-meter and men's platform. The competition concludes on Sunday with women's platform and men's 1-meter on Sunday.
