After closing out a successful fall season, the Utah women's tennis team opens up its highly anticipated spring season on Saturday. The Utes kickoff the season with a doubleheader against Dixie State on Saturday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes and the Trailblazers will play at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

MASK MANDATE
The University of Utah has issued a campus mask order consistent with the Salt Lake County mask order that went into effect on Jan. 8. All people are required to wear well-fitting masks indoors on-campus, which applies to all Utah Athletics events that take place in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
GONCHAROVA EARNS PAC-12 HONORS
Following her junior season, Anastasia Goncharova earned Pac-12 honors. Goncharova ended her first season with the Utes tied for the team high in singles wins and the second-most doubles victories. She played between the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots throughout the 2021 spring slate and competed primarily at the top two doubles courts with the final stretch of the season at the No. 1 position. The Evanston, Ill. native posted eight singles wins on the season, which included a 5-2 mark on court three. She picked up singles wins over opponents from Oregon and Arizona to highlight her first season in the Pac-12.
LOOKING BACK AT THE FALL
During the fall, Utah had a successful season. Utah saw Madeline Lamoreaux qualify for the ITA All-American singles tournament and Lamoreaux and Emily Dush make the ITA All-American as a doubles team. Along with making the ITA All-American tournament, the Utes had a strong showing at the ITA Regional. The Utes' Linda Huang advance to the semifinals of the ITA Regional tournament. The Utes last played in the San Diego State Fall Classic and the UNLV Fall Classic, both taking place Nov. 12 through the 14th. At the SDSU, doubles team, Lindsay Hung and Katya Hersh were able to come away with the doubles title in the Doubles Black draw.
LOOKING BACK AT 2021
During the 2021 spring season, despite the unprecedented limitations placed upon the squad due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Utes went 7-14 on the season. They were 5-4 when playing at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
LAST SEASON VS DSU
Last season, the Utes and Trailblazers squared off twice last season, once in SLC and another in St. George, Utah. The Utes came away with two 7-0 victories.
SCOUTING DIXIE STATE
The Trailblazers start the 2022 season this weekend against Utah. Dixie State is coming off a 5-15 season in 2021. Dixie State is returning seven of their nine athletes from the 2021 season. Alexandra Hildreth returns for the Trailblazers and she went 6-11 in doubles play on the season and 3-3 in WAC singles action. Juliana Honczaruk returns and she tied for the team-high with six singles victories on the season as she went 6-11 in 2021. Rachel Mellor also returns for the Trailblazers. Mellor and Honczaruk earned 2021 WAC Second Team All-Conference honors.
UP NEXT
Utah will host the Montana Grizzlies and the Seattle U Redhawks at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Saturday Jan. 22. The Utes open play on Jan. 22 against Montana at 10 a.m. MT before closing the day at 4 p.m. against Seattle U.
