Ellie Slama To Compete At Curtis Cup Practice Session
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Ellie Slama is one of 12 golfers who will compete at the Curtis Cup practice session this weekend at Mountain Lake in Lake Wales, Fla.
Eight players from the practice session will be selected by the USGA's International Team Selection Working Group to play at the 42nd Curtis Cup Match, which is scheduled for June 10-12, at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
Slama was the first alternate on the original invitation list and was added to the practice session when a player couldn't participate due to COVID-19 protocols.
"It is obviously a bittersweet situation, but I am extremely grateful for the opportunity," Slama said. "I'm very excited to represent Oregon State and the United States at the Curtis Cup practice session. It's been a goal of mine for a while to make this team and this weekend gets me one step closer to that."
The weekend consists of golf matches and activities for the 12 golfers to build camaraderie and spend time with the selection committee.
The Curtis Cup Match is contested by two teams of eight female amateur players, one from the United States of America and one from Great Britain and Ireland, which is composed of England, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The USA defeated Great Britain & Ireland 12.5-7.5 last August to win overseas for the first time since 2008. The USA leads the overall series, 30-8-3.
