ASU looks to start the spring strong following a good fall season. Four Sun Devils reached the ITA Fall Championship including team captain Max McKennon, No. 128 in ITA preseason rankings, who advanced to the Round of 32.

McKennon and co-captain Fabien Salle came in at 42nd in the doubles preseason rankings too. During fall competition, the duo defeated the No. 57-ranked doubles pair at Chowderfest in September and reached the Round of 32 in the ITA All-Americans tournament in Tulsa.

Sun Devil newcomers include freshman Murphy Cassone. The Overland Park, Kansas, native appeared in three doubles matches and six singles matches. Cassone defeated No. 124 Yuta Kikuchi from California in three sets at Chowderfest.

The Lopes come to Whiteman for their first match of the season after their matchup with UCLA, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed. Last season, GCU finished with an 8-13 record but won the WAC tournament to clinch an NCAA Tournament bid. The Sun Devils and the Lopes competed last season back in February where ASU swept GCU, 7-0.

After Friday's match with GCU, ASU continues its homestand with a matchup against No. 19 Texas A&M on Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. and will then take on No. 3 Texas at 1 p.m. on Jan. 24. The Aggies have not competed in a match in 2022 yet, but the Longhorns took home three wins on the final day of the Miami Invite this past Sunday.
