Track & Field Opens Full Indoor Slate at Snake River Open Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY – The full indoor season officially begins this Saturday, Jan. 15, for the Utah track & field team as they head to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Snake River Open held inside Holt Arena and hosted by Idaho State.

STARTING BLOCK
After a full week of training, the Utah track & field team will send a small contingent to compete at the Snake River Open.
 
Delaney Gates will kick the day off for Utah competing in the long jump with the men's starting things off before the women close out the event. Bailey Kealamakia and Ruby Jane Mathewson will open things up on the track as they compete in the 60m hurdles in hopes of advancing to the finals a couple hours later.
 
Rachel Whipple will then race in the 400m before Makenna McCloy puts her speed to the test in the 200m dash. The Utes then close out the meet competing in the women's 4x400m relay with a combination of Kealamakia, Mathewson, McCloy and Whipple.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Women of Utah had a solid preview of the indoor season this past December at the BYU Opener with transfer Josefine Eriksen winning the 600-yard race (1:20.40) in her first collegiate indoor race. Maya LeBar broke her PR mark twice in the 60m dash on her way to posting the third-fastest time in program history (7.68aa).
 
Megan Rose made her collegiate debut in the 60m and won her heat with a time of 7.90 while Makenna McCloy set a new PR in the 60m dash with her time of 7.98. Utah's relay squad of Oneillia Fuller, Brooklyn James, Skyler Blair and Eriksen dominated BYU's squad with a winning time of 2:51.19 in the 4x320m.
 
UP NEXT
The Utes will have a couple of weeks off to prep before heading up to the PNW for the UW Invitational (Jan. 28-29) inside the Dempsey Indoor Center before splitting the squad up the following weekend (Feb. 4-5) at the Weber State Invitational and WSU Invitational.
