Men's Hoops Hosts Utah in Monday (Jan. 17) Matinee (2 p.m. Tip)

Jan 16, 2022
Jalen Graham had a career-best 16 points vs. Colorado on Jan. 15.

TRYING TO GET BACK INTO SWING OF THINGS: The Sun Devil men's basketball squad (5-9; 1-3) will play just its third game in 28 days -- and its second in 15 days -- when it hosts the Utah Utes on Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m MT on the Pac-12 Network. Roxy Bernstein and Don MacLean have the Pac-12 Net call.

TIMELINE ON THE COVID PAUSE: Here is how the one-game in 26 days happened prior to Saturday's game vs. Colorado...ASU fell to San Francisco 66-65 on Dec. 19 on three USF free throws in the final seconds...since then, ASU has played only one game...on Dec. 21, ASU had its Florida A&M home game canceled due to campus power outage that affected Desert Financial Arena and other buildings...the team broke for the holiday break and came back after five days, only to learn its Dec. 30 game at USC and the Jan. 1 game at UCLA were postponed due to protocols with both the Trojans and Bruins...so ASU scrambled and moved its Wednesday, Jan. 19, California road game to Jan. 2...upon returning, ASU had to enter a pause due to COVID protocols, which meant it couldn't play a Jan. 5 game at UCLA (rescheduled from Jan. 1), its Jan. 8 Arizona game and its Jan. 13 Utah game (since moved to Monday, Jan. 17). How weird is one game from Dec. 20-Jan. 14? Using 2016-17 as an example, ASU played seven games in that time frame.

ACTUAL HOOP STUFF: ASU is 3-3 in its past six with wins at Oregon, vs. Grand Canyon and at Creighton. Kimani Lawrence is among the Pac-12 leaders with six double-figure rebounding games and six double-doubles, while freshman Enoch Boakye posted his best game of the year in the Jan. 2 loss at Cal with nine points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes and DJ Horne has yet to miss a free throw this season (16 straight).

JALEN SOLID VS. COLORADO: One good thing that came out of the Colorado Jan. 15 loss was Jalen Graham who had a career-high 16 points in just over 19 minutes, including 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

AT THE LINE: ASU's backcourt of Marreon Jackson (27-of-30), DJ Horne (16-of-16), Jay Heath (26-of-30) Luther Muhammad (13-of-16) and Jamiya Neal (7-of-10) are a combined 89-of-102 (.873) at the free throw line.
