USC Safety Calen Bullock Named FWAA Freshman All-American
LOS ANGELES — USC true freshman safety Calen Bullock has been named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American Team. He is USC's first FWAA Freshman All-American on defense since 2014 when Adoree' Jackson earned the same honor.
Bullock made an immediate impact in the Trojan secondary while playing free safety, nickelback and cornerback as a first-year freshman in 2021. Overall in 2021 while appearing in all 12 games and starting 6 times (San Jose State, Arizona and UCLA at free safety, Washington State and Notre Dame at nickelback and California at cornerback), he had 40 tackles, 2 interceptions and 3 deflections.
He started at free safety against San Jose State (becoming the first USC true freshman to start an opener at safety since Su'a Cravens in 2013 versus Hawaii) and had a team-high 8 tackles.
Bullock had 2 tackles and a deflection against Stanford, 4 tackles and an interception at Washington State, a tackle against Oregon State, 2 tackles at Colorado, 3 tackles against Utah and 5 tackles at Notre Dame. He had 4 tackles and a deflection against Arizona, 2 tackles against Arizona State, 5 tackles versus UCLA and 3 tackles, an end-zone interception and a deflection against BYU.
He also earned placement on the Pro Football Focus True Freshman All-American first team and won USC's 2021 Co-Defensive Perimeter Player of the Year Award.
