LAST TIME OUT FOR THE UTES
The Utes opened the season with a pair of victories over Idaho State last Saturday. Utah came away with a 7-0 and 6-1 wins over the Bengals.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Denver Pioneers are 1-0 after their season opener at Rice for the spring season. The Pioneers opened their season with a road match and downed the opposing team 4-3. Denver's double team of James Davis and Matt Summer won their match against Rice. The duo is ranked No. 32 in the ITA rankings. The match against the Owls came down to the No. 6 singles position that saw Daniel Krulig win in three sets to give the Pioneers the match. The match against the Utes will be their first home match of the season and is sure to be an exciting one.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS
Sunday's match will be New Mexico's first match of the season. The Lobos are led by Chris Russell, who is in his first year as the head coach. He is no stranger to Utah as he served as the associated head coach for the University of Washington before accepting this role. New Mexico closed out the fall season at the Duck Invitational on Nov. 12-14.

LAST SEASON WITH DENVER
Last season, the Utes suffered a heartbreaking loss to Denver. The Pioneers edged the Utes, 4-3, in Utah. The match saw seven tiebreakers and four three-set matches. The Utes doubles team of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman defeated Matt Summers and James Davis, 7-6 (4). Denver's double team of Davis and Summers were ranked 42 in the ITA rankings when these two teams met.

LAST SEASON WITH NEW MEXICO
Last season, the Utes won their fourth straight match after defeating the Lobos, 4-1, at the George S. Eccles Tennis complex. Utah answered back after dropping the doubles point by winning four straight singles matches to take the match. Francisco Bastias clinched the match with his singles victory.

FALL ITA SUCCESS
Both Denver and the Utes had success this fall at the ITA Mountain Regional. Capalbo matched up with Davis in the singles final, where Capalbo came away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. The Pioneers double team of Davis and Summers won the doubles ITA draw.

UP NEXT
After playing at Denver and New Mexico, the Utes will continue their road trip to California to take on UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount. The Utes will take on UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 29, and Loyola Marymount on Jan. 30. Both matches will take place in Los Angeles.
