No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Set for Spring Opener

The No. 17 USC women's tennis team kicks off the 2022 dual match season by hosting a double header against Loyola Marymount and San Francisco on Jan. 22 in Marks Stadium. Matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. (LMU) and 3 p.m. (USF). On Sunday, the Trojans will welcome Saint Mary's at 11 a.m.
The Women of Troy enter the spring season as the No. 17 ranked team in the country (ITA Coaches Poll). USC boasts four Trojans in the national singles rankings with junior Eryn Cayetano topping the rankings at No. 1. Cayetano is the first Trojan to be ranked No. 1 in singles since Sabrina Santamaria on Sept. 6, 2013.  Trojan senior Salma Ewing locked in the No. 12 ranking, while newcomer USC redshirt freshman Snow Han secured the No. 39 rank and sophomore Naomi Cheong sits at No. 98.
The Women of Troy also boast two ranked doubles pairs. Ewing/Han earn the No. 23 rank, while Cayetano/Piper hold the No. 26 rank. 
In 2021, the Women of Troy recorded a 13-11 record and went 5-5 in Pac-12 Conference play. After being selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, the Trojans upset both Oklahoma and Florida in the First and Second Rounds to advance to the Round of 16 where they fell to North Carolina State. Junior Salma Ewing earned placement in the NCAA Singles Tournament where she fell in the First Round. The Trojans finished No. 27 in the country with three singles players nationally ranked.

After a year off, the Lions opened the 2022 season on Saturday (Jan. 15) with a sweep over UC San Diego. LMU enters this weekend with the #18 ranked doubles pairing of Wiktoria Rutowska and Isabella Tcherkes-Zade. Rutowska is also ranked #123 in singles.
San Francisco opens spring action against the Academy of Art on Jan. 18 before traveling to Los Angeles to face the Trojans. USF is not ranked in the Top 25 and does not have any nationally ranked singles or doubles players. 
SMC opened dual action at the Cal Winter Invite (Jan. 14-16), where No. 74 Mariia Kozyreva won the Singles title by virtue of her 3-0 record at court number one's singles match. The Gaels will face UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Jan. 22 before traveling to Los Angeles for Sunday's match.
