Card Cruises Past Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. – Opening the dual slate with a victory, No. 16 Stanford topped No. 22 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Center. The Cardinal is 1-0, while the Waves drop to 0-1.

Stanford picked up the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Axel Geller and Tomas Kopczynski tallied a 6-3 win on court two, while the No. 8 duo of Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert won in tiebreaking fashion on court one, 7-6 (4).

The Cardinal took a 3-0 lead after quick singles results from Max Basing on court four, 6-1, 6-1, and Aryan Chaudhary on court six, 6-3, 6-4. The win was Chaudhary's team-leading 13th of the season. Pepperdine responded on courts five and three to cut the advantage to 3-2.

The seventh-ranked Fery closed out his opponent in a top-10 battle on court one, winning a tiebreaker in the second set, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Fery is 11-2 on the season.

The Cardinal returns to action Jan. 29 against Tulane in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Orlando.
