SEATTLE -- This weekend the Husky women's tennis team opens up its home season with a pair of dual matches against BYU and Eastern Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. It's the only home week for the women from now until Feb. 25-26, so fans won't want to miss their chance at catching the Dawgs in person.
The Huskies are 1-0 after a 6-1 win over Hawaii last weekend in Honolulu. Saturday, the Huskies host the Cougars in a 2 p.m. dual, moved up two hours from its originally scheduled start time. On Sunday, Jan. 23, the Huskies and Eagles go at it at 12 noon.
BYU plays its season opener on Friday against another Cougars, the Washington State version, in Pullman. BYU was 14-9 a year ago and had a 4-3 win over WSU and a 4-3 loss to Oregon, a 5-2 loss to Colorado and a 4-2 loss to Utah in its meetings with the Pac-12.
Eastern will be playing its season opener on Sunday. Last season, EWU was 8-9 overall and lost in the Big Sky Conference semifinals.
Against Hawaii, the Huskies got singles wins from returners Vanessa Wong (No. 1), Sarah-Maude Fortin (No. 2), and Zoey Weil (No. 6), and had first wins in their first UW starts from Hikaru Sato (No. 4) and Kelly Leung (No. 5).
