Scharf Wins All-Around, Gym Devils Take Second At No. 2 Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – Junior Hannah Scharf took home the all-around crown as No. 13 Sun Devil Gymnastics took second place at No. 2 Utah, 196.100 to 197.400.

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (0-2, 0-1 Pac-12) kept it close through the first three rotations with the reigning Pac-12 champions Utah (5-0, 1-0 Pac-12) before the home team pulled away in the final rotation. 
  • Junior Hannah Scharf won her first all-around title of the year with a 39.500. She scored season highs on beam (9.900) and bars (9.875) and matched last week's vault score (9.875). She was the lone Sun Devil to score a 9.900 tonight. 
  • The Gym Devils continued multiple impressive streaks in the meet. This was the 12th meet in a row with a team score over 196.000. ASU has now had 19 meets in a row scoring a 49.000-plus on bars, dating back to the 2020 season. Additionally, the team improved to 11 in a row reaching that mark on vault.
  • Two others competed in the all-around. Freshman Alex Theodorou made her collegiate debut on beam to do the all-around for her first time. She scored a 9.825 or better on three events, her best score coming on vault (9.875). Emily White also did the all-around, for the first time since last season, her best score coming on vault (9.825).
  • Junior Jordyn Jaslow scored a career-high on floor with a 9.850.
  • Sophomore Sarah Clark returned to the lineup for the first time this season, getting solid scores in her two events. She tied with Scharf for the team-high 9.875 on bars and a 9.825 on beam. 
  • Two Gym Devils made their season debut on floor, with Gracie Reeves and Jada Mangahas getting back in the lineup. 
  • Sophomore Cienna Samiley earned a career-high 9.800 on vault, as well as matching her personal best on bars with a 9.825.

Rotation One: Bars, 49.225
The Gym Devils concluded a successful run on bars with four athletes scoring above a 9.800, led by Clark and Scharf each scoring a 9.875. For Clark, it was her first routine of the season and for Scharf, it was a season high. Mangahas, Samiley and Theodorou added 9.825s to round out the team's bars rotation. This is the 19th time in a row the Gym Devils have scored more than 49 points on bars. 

Rotation Two: Vault, 49.175
For the 11th straight meet, the Gym Devils scored above 49.000 on vault. Scharf and Theodorou led the Sun Devils, scoring 9.875s respectively. Emily White followed up with a 9.825 while Cienna Samiley, Jada Mangahas scored 9.800s to keep the Gym Devils within .300 points of Utah halfway through the meet. 

Rotation Three: Floor, 49.075
Jaslow led the team off, scoring a new career-high 9.850 on floor. Gracie Reeves and Theodorou followed up with a 9.825 and 9.800 respectively. Scharf concluded the rotation recording a 9.850, continuing her consistent all-around performance. ASU was just .250 behind Utah after the third rotation. 

Rotation Four: Beam, 48.625
With a fall to start the beam lineup, pressure was on. Scharf had the highest score in the anchor spot, scoring a 9.900. Sarah Clark set up Scharf with a solid 9.825 to keep the Gym Devils on track to reach 196.000, which Scharf's score achieved.
