ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Cal track & field posted a solid start to its 2022 campaign on Saturday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, finishing the meet with three event wins and five new entries into the program's All-Time Top-10 Lists.

The women kicked things off with multiple standout performances in the weight throw. Senior Camryn Rogers led the way with a first-place (and conference-leading) toss of 22.04m (72-3.75), tied for fifth in the NCAA this season. Sophomore Rebecca Tomann took third place in her Cal debut, posting a heave of 17.25m (56-7.25) that currently ranks fourth in the Pac-12, while junior Anna Purchase followed just behind with her fourth-place mark of 17.17m (56-4).

Not to be outdone, the men's throwers also impressed in their respective outings. Senior Josh Johnson posted a win of his own in the shot put with a best throw of 19.58m (64-3), good for eighth in the NCAA and third in the Pac-12. Jeff Duensing, in just his second year with the Bears, threw the shot put 19.18m (62-11.25), bringing him up to third on Cal's all-time list and finishing third in the competition. In the weight throw competition, classmate Ivar Moisander led the Bears with a fourth-place heave of 18.46m (60-6.50), the Pac-12's fifth-best mark of 2022.

Two Bears competed in the men's long jump, with both recording career marks. Junior Mason Mangum's first-place leap of 7.42m puts him at 10th in program history; he was followed by classmate Kamau Carlisle's third-place distance of 7.31m (23-11.75). On the women's side, sophomore Asha Fletcher continued her triple jump success from 2021, leaping 12.56m (41-2.50) to earn third place and rise to eighth in Cal indoor history; that mark also stands as the best in the Pac-12 and 24th in NCAA Division 1. Junior Amari Turner, competing in the pole vault, finished in second place with her top height of 3.83m (12-6.75), sixth-best in the conference.

Both the men and the women fielded representatives who earned spots on Cal's All-Time 60m Hurdles lists. Freshman Di'Niko Bates qualified for the final after racing to an 8.07 finish in the preliminary round, following that up with a fourth-place time of 7.97 that stands as the sixth-best time in program history and the fourth-best in the Pac-12 this season. Sophomore Jazlynn Shearer made her Golden Bear debut with a preliminary time of 8.55 in the event, followed by her own fourth-place (and fourth-best in Cal history) time of 8.35. The latter mark also stands as the 24th-best in the NCAA and second-best in the Pac-12 this season. Freshman Asjah Atkinson, in her first collegiate competition, also landed herself on the Cal record books with a 60m hurdles time of 8.62 - sixth-best on the program's all-time list.

The Bears look to continue making history in their next outing, the WSU Invitational, which will take place in Spokane, Washington on Feb. 4-5.
