Norfleet’s tech, Valencia’s pin highlight 26-15 Sun Devil Victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Sun Devil Wrestling walked away with a 26-15 victory over CSAU Bakersfield Sunday afternoon in ASU's first of two duals in California this week. Kordell Norfleet and Anthony Valencia shined with their respective tech fall and pin victories. ASU won at 125, 133, 149, 157, 165 and 197. The road swing concludes tomorrow with a 1 p.m. MST dual against Cal Poly (CP Live Stream).
 
 
How it happened
The day started at 174 with Zane Coleman losing 18-8 in a major decision to Albert Urias. Jacob Hansen then defeated Jacob Ortiz in a 17-0 tech fall at 184.
 
197: Kordell Norfleet (ASU) over Josh Loomer (CSUB) (TF 22-3 6:13)
Norfleet made his highly anticipated return after missing the Pittsburgh and Princeton duals. The 10th-ranked wrestler return in prime form, defeating Josh Loomer 22-3 for the tech 6:13 into the match. Norfleet strung together four nearfalls and a pair of takedowns in the win.
 
Chad Porter wrestled in place of No. 3 Cohlton Schultz and lost 8-2 to Jacob Sieder.
 
125: Brandon Courtney (ASU) over EddieFlores (CSUB) (Dec 9-3)
Brandon Courtney got back in the win column with his 9-3 decision over Eddie Flores. Courtney was never taken down, Flores' point all coming from escapes. Courtney got two takedowns in the first frame and combined them with a reversal and takedown in the second period.
 
CSUB forfeited 133, so McGee collected the victory and six free points for the Maroon and Gold. Ethan Pickren followed Courtney as a result and lost 7-0 to Angelo Martinoni at 141.
 
149: Kyle Parco (ASU) over Josh Brown (CSUB) (Dec 4-2)
Kyle Parco had a quiet match against Josh Brown. Just two takedowns were recorded in the entire bout. Parco opened with one in the first, then Brown earned one in the final seconds of the third period and nearly flipped Parco to his back, but time expired before that could happen. An escape in the third period and his riding time bonus gave Parco the victory.
 
157:Jacori Teemer (ASU) over Brock Rogers (CSUB) (Dec 10-3)
Jacori Teemer moved to 11-0 on the year with his 10-3 win over Rogers. Teemer got ahead 6-2 in the first period before getting knocked in the head and leaking for a good amount of time in the second period. After he was patched up, he returned to action and added an escape and takedown to win 10-3.
 
165: Anthony Valencia (ASU) overAugustine Garcia (CSUB) (Fall 3:47)
Valencia wrapped up the day with a fiery boat at 165. The Sun Devil opened with a takedown and rolled it into a four-point nearfall. After giving up a reversal, Valencia escaped and got a takedown before pinning his opponent in the middle of the second period, 3:47. Valencia moves to 13-0 on the season and now has five pins this year.
