MVB Pair Picked for Player of the Week Honors
Middle Blocker Guy Genis and setter Miles Partain each garnered Player of the Week honors after UCLA's wins over then-No. 11 Ohio State and No. 3 Penn State in the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge which was held over the weekend in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Genis was selected as offtheblock.com's National Middle Attacker of the Week after he totaled 15 kills on 21 attacks with no hitting errors in the pair of victories. He collected seven kills and hit .778 against the Buckeyes to go with three digs and a block assist. In the win over Penn State, Genis had eight kills on 12 swings for a .667 percentage and added a team-best five block assists.
Partain was voted as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after his role in the Bruins' successes against the pair of the Big Ten opponents. He had a career-best and match-high 11 digs in the win over Ohio State to go with a block solo and a couple of block assists. Partain was credited with a team-high seven digs and added three block assists against Penn State. He compiled a career-best six kills versus Ohio State and also picked up 89 set assists on the weekend. The Bruins hit .359 in the win over OSU.
UCLA men's volleyball held at No. 2 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll released on Monday (Jan. 24). The Bruins will host a pair of non-conference opponents this week on Collins Court in the John Wooden Center.
