Shane Ffrench Fires 70, Leads USC Men's Golf In Southwestern Invitational Second Round

Sophomore Shane Ffrench fired a 2-under second round on Tuesday.

Sophomore Shane Ffrench fired a season-best 2-under 70 while freshman Jackson Rivera carded his second straight 1-under 71 - matching senior Cameron Henry's round - the trio leading the USC men's golf team to a sub-par second round at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif., on Tuesday (Jan. 25).

The Trojans' combined for a 1-under 287 to move to 10-over 586 (299-287) after 36 holes, good for ninth. Georgia leads the tournament at 18-under while host Pepperdine is second at 12-under.

Rivera recorded his team-best eighth round of par or better and seventh round under par by duplicating his first-round score and is now tied for 12th at 2-under 142 (71-71). He had six birdies on the day and tomorrow will gun for his first top 10 and his fourth top 18 of the season.

Ffrench was 2-over through 3 but birdied six and seven to start a stretch of five birdies over seven holes to get into the red, his only blemish after 3 coming with a bogey on 18. His 2-under effort moved him to 1-over 145 (74-71), tied for 29th.

Henry turned in his second sub-par round of the season with a 1-under 71, going out at even and coming home at 1-under, including a stretch of three straight birdies between 15 and 17. He is tied for 41st at 6-over.

Junior Parker Sisk, playing individually in his first event as a Trojan, is tied for 35th at 4-over after his second straight 74.

Sophomore Krando Nishiba is tied for 43rd at 7-over 151 (74-77) and freshman Gavin Aurilia is tied for 57th and 12-over 156 (81-75).

USC will begin the final round Wednesday at 7:46 a.m. PT. Golf Channel will air live coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m. PT.
