First Road Test Awaits No. 14 Oregon State Gymnastics

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Fourteenth-ranked Oregon State gymnastics continues Pac-12 competition with a showdown at No. 11 California this Saturday, Jan. 29. The Beavers for the first time will compete on the road inside Haas Pavilion at 4 p.m. PT. Beaver fans can follow along on Cal's live stream or live scoring, which can be accessed through the gymnastics scheduled page at osubeavers.com.
 
BEAVS IN THE RANKINGS
Following the Pac-12 opener against UCLA and UC Davis, the Beavers moved to No. 14 in the nation after their second week of competition. The Orange & Black are ranked No. 5 on both beam and floor, No. 14 on vault and 33rd on bars. Individually, Jade Carey is first in the all-around and on bars, tied for fourth on beam, eighth on floor and tied for ninth on vault through Jan. 24. After scoring a career-high on beam on Sunday with a 9.925, Jenna Domingo is tenth on the apparatus.
 
WEEK TWO QUICK STICKS
Jade Carey's second career college outing was a record-breaking performance, shattering the OSU all-around record of 39.750 that was set back in 1993 by Chari Knight with a 39.800 … The score in the Pac-12 opener was also the highest standing score in the nation through Jan. 23 … With the help of Carey, the Beavers posted the top team scores on vault (49.175), beam (49.375) and floor (49.450) on Sunday, which are all team-bests this season, to defeat UCLA (196.300) and UC Davis (194.700) … Jenna Domingo (9.925) and Lauren Letzsch (9.825) broke career-highs on the beam while Kaitlyn Yanish came up big in the fifth spot on floor with her first 9.9 of the season to lead the Beavers … other notables include: Karlie Chavez's personal-best on vault (9.775) to leadoff on the event, Sydney Gonzales' season-highs on all three events (V,BB,FX) and Phoebe Jakubczyk's career-highs on bars (9.80) and beam (9.775).
 
SEASON QUICK STICKS
OSU has hit 34 of 36 routines this season … Gymnasts who have hit every routine are Kayla Bird (4-4), Carley Beeman (1-0), Jade Carey (8-8), Karlie Chavez (2-2), Jenna Domingo (1-0), Sydney Gonzales (3-3), Phoebe Jakubczyk (3-3), Lauren Letzsch (6-6) and Kaitlyn Yanish (4-4) … Individual event winners this season are Carey (10) and Domingo (1).
 
CAL SERIES
Oregon State leads the all-time series with the Bears 93-9 but have dropped the last two dual meets, including the previous competition that occurred last season in Corvallis on Feb. 21 by way of 197.425-196.200 … the last time OSU defeated Cal in a head-to-head matchup occurred on Feb. 17, 2019 after the Beavers posted a 196.950 score in Corvallis.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Cal is led by Justin Howell, who is in his eighth season at the helm … The Bears are currently ranked 11th through week three after defeating Washington by a score of 196.675-195.450 in the Pac-12 opener in Seattle, Wash. … Cal ranks No. 5 on bars (49.338), No. 11 on vault (49.125), No. 15 on floor (49.175), and No. 24 on beam (48.863) … Individually, they are led by all-arounder Andi Li who is 19th in the nation with an average score of 39.375 through Jan. 24.
 
UP NEXT
Oregon State returns home for a two-meet homestand, beginning with Arizona State on Feb. 5 for its annual "Dam Cancer" meet. The Beavers and Sun Devils will square off at 5:30 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network, which will mark OSU's second televised meet this season.
