No. 12 Arizona Takes Fourth Win of Spring Season

Prairie View, Tx. - No. 12 Arizona Wildcats defeated the PVAMU Panthers in two 7-0 sweeps on Thursday, Jan. 27 in Prairie View, Tx. 

This marks the third and fourth win of the spring season for the Wildcats. Arizona secured both of the doubles points in the morning and afternoon matches. 

Jett Middleton and Filip Malbasic stepped off the court first after they defeated Diego Hatem and Joseph Gonzales 6-1. Colton Smith and Carlos Hassey followed suit beating Jorge Juarez and Juan Malham 6-1. Nick Lagaev and Jared Horwood won 6-2 against Adrien Blackwell and Jaydn Boone. 

Malbasic snagged the first singles point for the Cats after besting Malham 6-0 in two sets. Then came Lagaev who beat his opponent Hatem 6-0 in two sets as well. Third off the court was Horwood who won his singles point 6-1, 6-1 against Boone. 

Conner Olsen defeated Blackwell 6-1 in two sets and Middleton won 6-3, 6-0 against Joseph Gonzales. Smith secured the final singles point for the morning match 2-6, 6-7 (3), against Juarez. 

Kicking off the afternoon match, Smith and Hassey defeated Malham and Gonzales 6-1. Lagaev and Horwood secured the second doubles point after they beat Juarez and Hatem 6-1. Olsen and Middleton also won 6-1 against Boone and Blackwell. 

Middleton took the first singles points of the afternoon match, winning 6-0, 6-1 against Blackwell. Lagaev was next winning both sets 6-0 against Malham. Coming third off the court was Malbasic with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hatem. 

Horwood won 6-1, 6-0 against Boone claiming the fourth singles point of the afternoon match. Hassey defeated Juarez 6-0, 6-4 and Olsen beat Gonzales 6-4, 6-0 finalizing the second win of the day for the Wildcats. 

No. 12 Arizona will travel to College Station, Tx. for the ITA Kickoff where they will play in three matches against Texas Tech, No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 23 UCLA over the weekend.
