Women’s Tennis Heads to the Midwest for a Pair of Matches

FIRST SERVE
Utah Women's Tennis hits the road for the first time this season as they head to Cincinnati, Ohio to go head to head with the Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday, Jan. 28th at 4 p.m. MT, and then to Bloomington, Indiana, to play the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Utes played at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center, when they hosted both the Montana Grizzlies and the Seattle U Redhawks. Utah defeated both teams 7-0, despite a couple of tough matches. Against Montana's Olivia Oosterbaan, Emily Dush won her first set 6-2 before Oosterbaan tied up the second set 5-5. Dush fought her way back, clinching her win, 7-5. Lindsay Hung also had an extraordinary performance in singles against Seattle U player Mireia Fehr. Hung lost her first set, 2-6, but was able to turn the match around, winning the next set, 6-2, sending the match into a 10-point tiebreaker. Hung clawed her way to victory, winning the tiebreaker, 10-5.
 
LAST TIME VS CINCINNATI AND INDIANA
This weekend will be the first matchups the Utes will have up against the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Indiana Hoosiers. 
 
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
Cincinnati will be hosting their first home match versus the Utes. They have already had three matches this season, one of which they have won against the University of Dayton. Last season, the Bearcats went 6-10, 5-3 at home. Emma Miceli, a redshirt senior, led the team in win, winning 8-4 overall.
 
SCOUTING INDIANA
Indiana will be playing the first match of its spring season. Indiana went 1-16 last season. Their one win was at home against Michigan State. Last season, the Hoosiers were led in wins by Alexandra Staiculescu. Staiculescu, a junior, was 8-10 overall last year.
 
TOP AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS
Universal Tennis took a look at the top 10 ranked college players from Australia. The results are based on the UTR Ranking. Utah's Linda Huang came in fourth on the list. Her ranking is 10.23 from the UTR Rating.
 
UTAH TO FACE ITA RANKED PLAYERS
This weekend, the Utes will match up with two singles players and a doubles team ranked in the ITA Rankings. On Friday, Utah will face Elizabeth Pendergast, who is ranked No. 121 in the singles rankings. On Sunday, Utah will meet the 33rd ranked doubles team of Laura Masic and Lara Schneider. Schneider is also ranked 107th in the singles rankings.
 
UP NEXT 
Utah returns to the George S. Eccles Center on Friday, Feb. 4, to host Idaho State. First serve will take place at 4 p.m. MT.
