Chen Highlights Utah Dive on Day 1 at BYU

PROVO, Utah- It was a quick night of action down in Provo at the Richards Building Pool as the Utah dive team opened up competition against BYU Friday evening.

"We had a decent night of events as we had some nerves get the best of us," head diving coach Richard Marschner said. "But we did what we needed to do to position us for tomorrow and I'm confident that we'll come back with a couple of really strong events."

Senior Tony Chen highlighted the night for the Utes taking home the victory in the 1M with a score of 337.50, his second highest score of the season. Luke McDivitt (303.98) and Jenner Pennock (294.38) finished in second and third, respectively as freshman Ben Smyth rounded out the Utah competitors in fifth (288.98).

Pennock's score of 294.38 tops his previous season best of 283.95 he set last month at Princeton.

On the women's side, junior Lizzy DeCecco earned a score of 269.40 to place second on the 3M dive while senior Lexi Mills (267.98) finished in third. Freshman Holly Waxman capped off the Utah divers in fifth, earning a score of 258.38.

Competition will continue tomorrow and is set to begin at 11:00 am with the 200-medley relay.
