No. 4 Women's Tennis Blanks Cal Poly in ITA Kickoff Opener

LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 UCLA women's tennis team got in the win column Friday, beating Cal Poly by a 4-0 score in ITA Kickoff Weekend action at Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins advance to face Pac-12 foe Washington in Saturday's championship match (1 p.m. PT). The winner will punch its ticket to February's ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Mustangs take on Denver in the consolation match, set for Saturday at 10 a.m.

UCLA (1-1) dropped just two games in Friday's completed doubles matches, and saw Elysia Bolton, Ava Catanzarite and Elise Wagle put forth dominant performances in their finished singles contests. Catanzarite, who clinched the victory, and Wagle recorded their first singles dual-match wins.

Vanessa Ong and Sasha Vagramov made quick work of Peyton Dunkle and Shreya Ravilla in a 6-0 result on the third doubles court. Then, for the second time in as many matches, Ava Catanzarite and Abbey Forbes were victorious as a combination, beating Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette by a 6-2 score.

Bolton dropped just two first-set games against Emily Ackerman on the second doubles court for her second singles win in four days. That 6-2, 6-0 result made it 2-0.

With Catanzarite, Forbes and Wagle jockeying to complete their respective matches, it was Wagle who crossed the finish line first. She followed Bolton's example, taking all six second-set games from her opponent, Delanie Dunkle, for a 6-4, 6-0 showing on Court 4.

Catanzarite snuck in ahead of Forbes to provide the heroics. She outlasted Peyton Dunkle, 6-1, 6-4, to not only secure her second win, but her second point-producing triumph, of the afternoon.
