Wildcats Close Out Day One in Lubbock
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Wildcats closed out day one of their split weekend on Friday with several athletes kicking off competition at the Texas Tech Open & Multis in Lubbock, Texas.
Shannon Meisberger clocked a 400m time of 53.79, just shy of her PR, to place second. She was followed by Xahria Santiago who ran a season-best time of 55.89. In the men's race, Calvin Wilson posted a time of 47.66.
Talie Bonds qualified for the 60mH finals with a first round time of 8.38 and semi-final time of 8.37. She went on to finish sixth in the finals, clocking 8.44.
Katie Daily posted an indoor PR of 3.97m (13-0.25) in the pole vault to take fourth, improving her previous indoor PR of 3.95m (12-11.5) that she cleared at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in 2020. In the men's pole vault, Tanner Kippes was Arizona's top finisher, getting over the bar at a height of 4.85m (15-11) to finish seventh.
Anna Foreman finished fifth in the 600m with a time of 1:34.40. On the men's side, Damien Jackson clocked 1:23.79.
Hollan Powers closed out her collegiate pentathlon debut with a score of 3,479. Her highest-scoring event of the day was the 60mH where she clocked 9.12 and tallied 885 points. She put up season-best marks in the hurdles, shot put and high jump.
The Wildcats will be back for day two of the Texas Tech Open in addition to kicking off competition at the UW Invitational in Seattle tomorrow beginning at 11:00 a.m. MST.
