Top 20 Match: No. 12 Arizona vs. No. 19 Texas A&M

College Station, Texas - The Wildcats are on a great start to the ITA Kickoff after their 4-1 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022. This was the first matchup between the two teams since 2009. The series now stands 1-1. 

Arizona secured the doubles point after Colton Smith and Carlos Hassey defeated Ilgiz Valiev and Dimitrios Azoids 7-6. Filip Malbasic and Jett Middleton were first off the court after beating their opponents 6-3. 

The Wildcats walked away with three singles points from the match. Gustaf Strom took the first one after he swept Valiev 6-0, 6-3. Hassey was next off the court with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Reed Collier. And No. 53 Herman Hoeyeraal grabbed the last singles point after he battled it out against Franco Ribero and won 7-6, 6-4. 

No. 12 Arizona and No.19 Texas A&M battle it out in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at 1 p.m. (MST). This matchup will determine which team will take a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle in February.
