Women's Water Polo Cruises Past Salem, 24-3

Ann Arbor, Mich. – Four Bruins recorded hat tricks as No. 3 UCLA cruised to a 24-3 win over Salem in the nightcap of Day One of the Michigan Invitational. A total of 12 Bruin players found the back of the net, including all four true freshmen. Emma Lineback led the rookie class with three goals and a team-high four assists, while Molly Renner and Nicole Struss scored two each, and Grace Myers scored once.

UCLA's three-goal scorers were Lineback, redshirt sophomore Alex Peros, sophomore Anneliese Miller, and senior Bella Wentzel, who recorded her first career hat trick.

UCLA (7-0) shot a blistering .649 (24-37) in the game and held Salem (0-2)  to just .091 (3-33) shooting. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Georgia Phillips made 18 saves for the Bruins.

Annefluer ten Bloemendal led Salem with two goals.

PERIOD ONE
> UCLA outscored Salem 7-1 in the opening period.
> Salem scored the first goal of the game, at 7:04, as Annefleur ten Bloemendal put the Tigers up 1-0. The Bruins scored seven straight to end the quarter. Emma Lineback tied it up with 6:37 on the clock, and Molly Renner put UCLA ahead for good at 5:48.
> Katrina Drake scored her first goal at 3:25, blocked a shot on Salem's next possession, then scored her second goal at 2:54 to give UCLA a 5-1 lead.

PERIOD TWO
> UCLA scored the first three goals of the second period and outscored Salem 5-1 to take a 12-2 halftime lead.
> Bella Wentzel, who scored late in the first period, recorded two goals in the second to notch her first career hat trick.

PERIOD THREE
> The Bruins blanked the Tigers in the third period, 6-0, with all six goals coming from different players.
> Alex Peros scored the first of her three goals at 7:40 to put UCLA ahead 13-2.

PERIOD FOUR
> UCLA outscored Salem 6-1 in the fourth period to provide the 24-3 final score.
> Anneliese Miller's penalty shot at 6:41 was her third goal of the game, giving the sophomore the first hat trick of her career.
> Lineback's goal at 4:14 gave her three goals and her third career hat trick.
> Peros scored twice in the period (4:58 and 2:16) to record her first hat trick of the season and second of her career.

UP NEXT
The Bruins will face LIU at 9:30 a.m. PT on Sunday before closing the tournament against host Michigan at 12:30 p.m. PT.
