Wrestling Battles To Four Individual Wins In Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – Four Beavers picked up victories as the 25th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team was edged by No. 12 Arizona State, 20-17, Sunday afternoon at Desert Financial Arena.
 
All four Beaver victors picked up at least one extra point.
 
Gary Traub extended his win streak to 15 at heavyweight, while Trey Munoz won his 14th bout of the season, second by technical fall. Grant Willits extended his win streak to 12, while Mateo Olmos improved to 12-7 this season.
 
Munoz had the biggest win of the day for the Beavers, taking a 26-10 technical fall victory over Josh Nummer at 184 pounds. Munoz is 14-2 on the season and has posted at least one extra point in seven of those wins.
 
Willits, at 141 and ranked 14th nationally, downed Ethan Pickren, 9-1, and has two major decisions this season. Twelve of his 19 wins this season have seen at least one extra point.
 
Olmos was the third Beaver to win Sunday, and in doing so, won his first bout by major decision this season. He downed Ryan Rochford, 14-4, at 174 pounds. Olmos has won six of his last eight bouts.
 
No. 9 Traub ended the day with his 16th win of the season. He downed Chad Porter via a 14-5 major at heavyweight to end the dual. The major was Traub's second of the season.
 
OSU wrestlers lost by three points or less in three bouts. No. 17 Brandon Kaylor was edged by No. 4 Brandon Courtney at 125, 6-5, while No. 28 Cory Crooks dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 9 Kyle Parco at 149.
 
No. 16 Hunter Willits took No. 3 Jacori Teemer to overtime, but was downed 2-1 at 157.
