LOS ANGELES – UCLA sophomore pitcher Max Rajcic has been named a Preseason All-American by Baseball America, the outlet announced on Monday. The right-hander was tabbed to the Third Team.

Rajcic was one of two pitchers from the Pac-12 Conference to appear in Baseball American's Preseason All-America Teams, joining Cooper Hjerpe (Oregon State).

The Fullerton, Calif. native is coming off a standout debut season in Westwood, as he posted a 1.65 ERA and 7 saves as the team's closer in 2021 en route to All-Pac-12 and Freshman All-America honors. He struck over a batter per inning (36 Ks in 32 2/3 innings pitched) and limited his opponents to an anemic .185 batting average. His 7 saves tied a freshman program record, and his ERA was the best on the squad last season.

Some of his most noteworthy performances from last season include May 15 against UC Santa Barbara (went seven-up, seven-down to record the save) and May 22 against California (season-high 5 strikeouts). He went on to start for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League last summer, crafting a 4.32 ERA over seven appearances.

Rajcic and the UCLA baseball team – ranked No. 22 in the Baseball America Preseason Top-25 – unofficially begin the 2022 campaign this Saturday, Feb. 5, with the alumni game. The Bruins officially open the season with a three-game set against CSUN starting on Friday, Feb. 18.
