LOS ANGELES – Junior sprinter Makenzy Pierre-Webster of the women's track & field team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for Jan. 24-31.
Pierre-Webster etched her name in the UCLA record books on Saturday, setting a new school record in the indoor 200m. She won the 200m event at the UNM Team Open on Saturday, Jan. 29 with a lifetime-best time of 23.33, breaking Bruin great Monique Henderson's previous record of 23.49 set back in 2002. The Whitby, Ontario, Canada native also finished second overall in the 60m as the top collegian, tying her own lifetime-best mark of 7.40. She was already fourth all-time in UCLA history in the event.
This is Pierre-Webster's first individual student-athlete of the week award of her career. She was a member of the 4x400m relay team that won the award collectively on June 15, 2021 following the squad's school-record performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
