BERKELEY – For the second official meet of the 2022 indoor campaign, Cal track & field will head north this weekend to compete in a two-day slate: the WSU Open on Feb. 4 and the WSU Invitational on Jan. 5, hosted by Washington State University and Spokane Sports at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. The first events on day one will begin at 9:00 a.m. PT, while day two commences at 10:00 a.m. PT.

"What we like about multi-day meets like these is that we can simulate a championship atmosphere," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Robyne Johnson. "Since some of the athletes are running races two days in a row, it helps us practice staying ready across that time period so we can perfect that mindset for the Championships."

This week, the team hopes to see improvement across the board to build upon their successes from two weeks ago. Currently, Cal's men's shot putters are ranked No. 3 in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the women's weight throwers crack the list at No. 13. Leading the way for those two squads are seniors Josh Johnson and Camryn Rogers, respectively, who currently sit at No. 8 and No. 7 as individuals in those events.

For the WSU Open, Cal will compete against athletes from Alaska Anchorage, Arizona, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Central Washington, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Idaho, Idaho State, Lewis-Clark State, Montana, Montana State, Northwest Nazarene, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Saint Martin's, Santa Clara, Seattle U, Spokane CC, UC Riverside, Utah, Washington State, Western Oregon, Western Washington and Whitworth.

In the WSU Invitational, the Bears will face entries from Arizona, Boise State, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Washington, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Saint Martin's, Santa Clara, UC Riverside, Utah, Washington, Washington State, Western Washington and Whitworth.
