BERKELEY – After last weekend's tremendous improvements, Cal men's gymnastics is hoping to reach even greater heights on Friday, Feb. 4 as they appear at their first out-of-state competition this season: the Pac-12 Invite in Seattle, hosted at the University of Washington's Alaska Airlines Arena. The first events will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT and will feature gymnasts from Cal, Stanford, Washington and Arizona State.

"There's a process that goes into travel meets – getting on the plane, flying somewhere, preparing the equipment and then doing our job at the meet," said head coach J.T. Okada. "What I really want us to do is hone that process this week. I think we can continue our momentum from Saturday and get an even better score this coming Friday."

Sophomore Noah Newfeld, who qualified for the Winter Cup at the Stanford Open, ranks eighth in the nation in the all-around and will strive to improve his scores on Friday in preparation for the Cup, which is just a few short weeks away.

Seniors (and co-captains) Yu-Chen Lee and Caleb Rickard also stand out among the country's top collegiate gymnasts, with the former tying for seventh nationally on the floor exercise and the latter cracking the seventh spot for vault.

The Bears are familiar with Stanford, who put up a score of 410.250 the last time the two teams saw each other, but this will be their first meeting with both Washington and Arizona State this season. Cal leads the series with Washington 37-4 and leads the series with Arizona State 29-17.
