Beavers Gear Up for WSU Invitational & Open

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track and field team is set to travel to Spokane, Wash. for the WSU Invitational and Open this Thursday through Saturday. The WSU Invitational will kick off on Thursday at noon. The Beavers will compete in the women's pentathlon, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and run throughout the day. Friday's action will highlight the WSU Open, which will start at 9 a.m. Oregon State's first field event will be the women's weight throw at 9 a.m. and its first event on the track will be the 400 meters, scheduled for 2:10 p.m. The Beavers will also participate in the WSU Invitational's high jump, which is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday. The WSU Invitational will continue on Saturday with a 10 a.m. meet start. The Beavers' first field event will be the women's weight throw at 10 a.m. and their first event on the track will be the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles at noon. 
 
Last Time Out
Oregon State last hit the track Jan. 28-29, appearing in the UW Invitational in Seattle Wash. Redshirt junior Kaylee Mitchell shattered the OSU program record in the 3000 meters, stopping the clock at 9:03.26 to finish third overall. The previous record was 9:23.36, set by Juliana Mount in 2019. Fellow redshirt junior Grace Fetherstonhaugh, who remains second in the OSU record book in the 3000-meter event, clocked a personal-best of 9:06.86, finishing seventh overall. Also on the track, sophomore Adael Scatena recorded a personal-best of 8.83 in the 60-meter hurdles to place second after recording a time of 9.05 to finish third in the preliminary heat. The Orange and Black finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:58.23) and sixth in the distance medley relay (DMR) (11:38.06).
 
Freshman Lara Denbow and senior Emma Nelson placed first and second, respectively, in the high jump, recording personal-best marks of 1.73m (5' 8"). Sophomore Delaney Bahn finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.54m (18' 2.25") and redshirt senior Keely McLaughlin also garnered a fifth-place finish, recording a toss of 13.84m (45' 5") in the shot put. In the weight throw, redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield notched a personal-best of 16.21m (53' 2.25") for a sixth-place finish and to move to fourth in the OSU record books. 
 
NCAA Standings
Mitchell is currently ninth in the nation in the 3000 meters, with Fetherstonhaugh in 16th after last weekend's meet. Fetherstonhaugh is also 39th in the 5000 meters, with a time of 16:26.02, set at the Spokane Invitational on Dec. 11. The distance medley relay team of senior Mari Friedman, Scatena, freshman Jillian Brown, and sophomore Amber Jackson are currently 27th on the NCAA Indoor Performance List. 
 
Pac-12 Standings
The Beavers are in the top-10 in seven event categories on the Pac-12 Indoor Performance List. Mitchell leads the 3000 meters category with Fetherstonhaugh in a close second. Fetherstonhagh and Mitchell are also third and fourth, respectively, in the 5000 meters from their performances at the Spokane Qualifier (Dec. 11). After last weekend's UW Invitational, Denbow and Nelson are tied for sixth in the high jump, the Beavers are also sixth in the DMR. Moersdorf is ninth in the triple jump after posting the OSU program record of 12.08m (39' 7.75") at the Spokane Qualifier (Dec. 11). Friedman and McLaughlin are tenth in the 800 meters and shot put, respectively.
