Men’s Tennis Hosts LMU and Texas Tech

The Utes will welcome the LMU Lions and the Texas Tech Red Raiders to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center for an exciting weekend of competition. Utah plays LMU at 1 p.m. Friday and Texas Tech at 12 p.m. Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE UTES
The Utes defeated the Lions 4-3 this past weekend to conclude their four-match road swing. The victory improved the Utes' overall standing, bringing them up to 6-0 for the season. The Utes also won the doubles point in this match, making it the sixth consecutive match this season with such a record.
 
Despite winning the last time the Utes played the Lions, the singles matches were tied. Utah won courts one, two, and three, and LMU won courts four, five, and six. The upcoming match will make for an exciting competition and challenge the Utes to keep their perfect season record.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
The LMU Lion have a 1-2 record so far this season after starting with a win against UC Davis and defeats against UCSB and Utah. In doubles action this season, LMU is 5-4. The Lions have used five different double lineups, and no team has over one win. In singles, LMU is 9-9 this spring. The team has three players with two wins each. Isaac Becroft leads LMU has he is ranked No. 55 in the ITA singles rankings.
 
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS
The Texas Tech Raiders have three victories under their belt, facing the Utes with a 3-2 season record. Both defeats came from ranked teams, No. 12 Arizona and No. 23 UCLA, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. In their last match against UCLA, Tech dropped the match 4-3 but pulled off two ranked wins on the day. Ilgiz Valiev defeated the No. 41st player, A. Hoogmartens) and Red Collier defeated Stefan Leustian, the No. 96th ranked singles player.   
 
CAPALBO NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Utah's Franco Capalbo was named Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the Pac-12 conference announced on Wednesday. Capalbo continued his successful spring season this past weekend as he went 4-0 on the week and helped the Utes improve to 6-0. On the season, Capalbo holds a 6-0 record in doubles and a 6-0 mark in singles.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
Since the beginning of the 2015 season, the Utes have dominated home play and hold a 78-20 (.796) record at the Eccles Tennis Center. In the past four seasons, Utah holds a 39-7 (.847) record in Salt Lake City. Last season, the Utes went 13-3 at home, the most since in a single season since 2015. Utah is 2-0 at home this season.
 
UP NEXT 
The Utes stay at home for three matches the following weekend when they host Gonzaga (Feb. 12) and Boise State and Nevada (Feb. 13). All matches will be played at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
