Soccer adds Vunipola from Syracuse

Feb 3, 2022

PULLMAN, Wash. – Continuing his haul from the transfer portal, Washington State soccer head coach Todd Shulenberger has officially announced the addition of Telly Vunipola (Chino, Calif.) out of Syracuse for the 2022 season. Vunipola played the last two years at Syracuse after starting her collegiate career at Louisiana. She will have one year to play as a grad transfer for the Cougs.
Vunipola joins other DI transfers Brianna McReynolds (Oregon State) and Lindsey Turner (UC Riverside) as new Cougs for the 2022 season.
"We are excited to add Telly to our WSU team this fall," said Shulenberger. "She brings with her a ton of experience and versatility as attacking midfielder and forward. She will certainly fit in real nice in our Coug attack."
A dangerous attacker out of the midfield, Vunipola joins the Cougs with four years of experience on the collegiate pitch as she has chosen to take advantage of her extra year due to Covid-19. A two-year starter at Syracuse, Vunipola finished her senior season with a pair of goals and a pair of assists despite being limited to just eight games due to injury. The year prior, Vunipolo would start all eight games for the Orange in the pandemic shortened spring season. Prior to Syracuse Vunipolo started 35 of 38 games at Louisiana in two seasons in the midfield. She scored her first collegiate goal her freshman season against Georgia Southern while also recording a game-winning assist that season.
Vunipola's family is no stranger to athletics with her cousins Robert Stanley (football at Fresno State), Raychel Stanley (Loyola Marymount basketball), Kayla Sok (San Diego State softball) and Ronnie Stanley (Baltimore Ravens) all playing collegiately and professionally.
