Team Canada Selects Eckert for World Cup Roster
OTTAWA, Ont. – Oregon sophomore Cassidy Eckert was selected as one of two goalies for the Canadian National Team competing at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Cup.
The World Cup, which was postponed from 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, will take place in Towson, Md. from June 29 to July 9, 2022. Eckert is fresh off an appearance with Team Canada at the World Lacrosse Super Sixes event in the fall. She made 15 saves in wins over Team USA and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. Team Canada went 2-0 with Eckert in the net.
The Oregon sophomore has national team experience with the Canadian U-19 team that earned a silver medal at the 2019 U-19 World Championships. She played in all seven games and recorded 23 saves during the tournament.
In her first year with the Ducks, Eckert found herself in a reserve role behind returning starter Alle Dunbar. Before coming to Oregon, the Burlington, Ont. native led her province to the U-19 National Championship and won the Brogden Cup in 2018.
The Ducks open the 2022 season on February 12 against George Mason. Fans can buy tickets for the season opener and Oregon's other seven home games at goducks.com/tickets.
