Williams Named to Bowerman Watch List

Feb 3, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – Micah Williams, the reigning NCAA champion at 60 meters, has run his way onto Thursday's release of The Bowerman watch list. He becomes the 11th UO man to make a watch-list appearance

Williams owns the No. 2 time in the NCAA and in the world with his time of 6.48 in the final of the season-opening Cougar Classic. With that time, he also lowered his own school record from a pair of 6.49 performances from the 2021 season.

At last weekend's Razorback Invitational, the Portland, Ore., native stopped the clock in season-best tying 6.48 to secure his second win of the year. Williams now has four sub-6.50 performances in his career; no one else in NCAA history has more than two.

Named for legendary Oregon head coach Bill Bowerman and first awarded in 2009, The Bowerman is presented annually to the top men's and women's performers in collegiate track and field.

Five Ducks have won The Bowerman, a list featuring past UO greats Galen Rupp (2009), Ashton Eaton (2010), Laura Roesler (2014), Jenna Prandini (2015) and Raevyn Rogers (2017).

Emmanuel Ihemeje, a member of the initial Bowerman watch list in January, is receiving votes in the latest update. Ihemeje swept the NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the triple jump last season.

The next round of updates of the watch list are scheduled for March 2 (women) and March 3 (men).

Oregon is back in action Feb. 11-12 with the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. In addition to the Ducks, the 10-field team will include Arizona, Howard, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, South Florida, Tulsa and host Wisconsin.
