Buffaloes Compete In Three Meets Friday
SPOKANE, Wash. – Colorado track and field competed in three meets Friday evening with two different meets in Spokane at the WSU Combined Events Open and Invitational and at the Mines Winter Classic in Golden.
Colorado took home a win and posted two marks on the top-10 lists as Nick Bianco entered the men's heptathlon record books ninth in CU history and Amanda Opp had a huge personal best in the weight throw to move into a tie for third with teammate Gya'ni Sami.
Bianco closed out the second day of the men's heptathlon with a win in the pole vault at 4.80 meters. He finished with 5,054 points, the ninth-most in CU history. He was joined by John Swabik who finished fifth with 4,787 points.
In the WSU Open women's weight throw, Amanda Opp tossed a three-foot personal best to place second in 17.65 meters (57-11). She moved from ninth in CU history to tied for third with Sami who finished fifth in the event in 16.40 meters (53-9.75). Both women along with Elena Opp competed again in the WSU Invitational portion with Amanda Opp finishing fifth with a toss of 17.49 meters (57-4.75) and Sami finishing ninth in finals with a mark of 16.72 meters (54-10.25).
Also competing twice was Kylee Harr in the women's high jump. Harr won the WSU Open high jump with a leap of 1.72 meters (5-7.75), then came back and jumped in a second competition to finish ninth with a clearance of 1.66 meters (5-5.25).
Competing in the Invitational high jump tomorrow is Noah Bouchard who placed third in the Open 60 hurdle finals today in 8.42 seconds. He ran 8.47 in the prelims which was the seventh-best mark in the first round. In addition, he jumped 6.63 meters (21-9) to finish sixth in the men's long jump. His hurdle mark was just two-hundredths of a second from tying the 10th-best mark in CU history.
The Buffs finish out competition tomorrow in both the WSU Invitational and the Mines Winter Classic.
