Ducks Move Up After Second Round in Hawaii

Feb 4, 2022

WAIMEA, Hawaii – Four Ducks shot under par on Friday as Oregon moved up a spot at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate played at Hapuna Golf Course.

Owen Avrit led the Ducks in the second round with a 2-under 70, with Craig Ronne, Greyson Leach and Eric Doyle shooting under par as well.

On the day, Oregon had a 4-under 284 to move up a spot to 15th at 1-under 575 for the tournament.

How It Happened: After an uncharacteristic 75 in the opening round Avrit returned to his fall form with three birdies, one bogey and 14 pars. It was the eighth time under par in 14 rounds this season for the junior from Arroyo Grande, Calif.

Avrit had help from Craig Ronne and Greyson Leach, who both carded 71s, while Nate Stember checked in with an even-par 72.

For the tournament, Stember was tied for 34th at 4-under 140. Avrit, Ronne and Leach were all tied for 69th at 1-over 145.

Quotable
Head coach Casey Martin
"After a tough round on Thursday, the guys came out and battled today. It was a step in the right direction, but we still need to get better at this kind of golf. We have hit way too many shots into the lava. It's much different than courses we play in Oregon and it has exposed us a bit."

Notable: Freshman Eric Doyle, playing as an individual, overcame a quadruple bogey on his first hole to post his second under-par round of the tournament. He had a 71 on Friday to back Thursday's 69 and was tied for 34th at 4-under 140. Doyle turned in seven birdies on the round, including four straight at one point.
