Ereño Perez Posts 6-Under 66 at Day 2 of Amer Ari Invitational

KAMUELA, Hawai'i – Freshman Pablo Ereño Perez recorded the lowest round by a Bruin this season with a 6-under 66 to help the UCLA men's golf team up four spots to 8th at 17-under 559 on day two of the Amer Ari Invitational at the Hapuna Golf Course.
 
All four counting scores in the Bruins' starting five were under-par, and their fifth golfer – graduate Eddy Lai, who shot a 2-under 70 in round one – shot an even-par 72. UCLA had the sixth-lowest team score on the day with a 13-under 275. The score bested the team's previous low this season of 3-under 285 in round two of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 23.
 
The Bruins are 18 strokes behind first-place Texas Tech.
 
Ereño Perez needed just 18 more holes to record a new career low that was set with the first under-par round of his career on day one of the Amer Ari Invitational with a 2-under 70. Ereño Perez rose 10 spots on the individual leader board and is now 8-under 136 for the tournament.
 
In addition to having a first bogey-free round, Ereño Perez birdied four times and holed the first eagle of his collegiate career and first of the season for the Bruins on the par-5 8th. His birdies came on the par-5 3rd, par-4 6th, par-4 10th and par-5 14th.
 
Fellow freshman Alvaro Mueller Baumgart Lucena scored UCLA's second top score of the day with a 3-under 69 for the first under-par round of his career and conquering his previous career-low by three strokes. Muller had a flawless front nine with five birdies and no bogeys for a first-half score of 5-under 31. After a 2-over back nine, thanks to four bogeys and two more birdies, Muller finished the day 20 spots higher on the leader board at T-41st.
 
Bling got back to under par behind the effort of five birdies and just two bogeys in round two for a score of 3-under 69. Bling had a bogey-free back nine with three birdies on the par-5 11th, par-4 12th and par-3 16th. He is T-55 at 143 through 36 holes.
 
Redshirt senior Kengo Aoshima, who is making his Bruin debut this tournament, shot a 1-under 71 after going even-par in round 1. Aoshima recuperated from a 2-over 38 on the front nine with a bogey-free back nine decorated by three birdies on the par-5 11th, par-5 14th and par-3 16th.
 
UCLA tees off for the final round of the Amer Ari Invitational tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. PT.
