WSU Invitational Results

SPOKANE, WASHINGTON – After a strong outing on Friday in the WSU Open, Cal track & field set out to make an even bigger impact in Saturday's WSU Invitational; one day of competition later, the team had accumulated 15 new personal records and 8 new entries on the program's all-time Top 10 lists.

Junior Asha Fletcher followed Friday's long jump win with a victory in the triple jump competition, posting a personal-best leap of 13.03m (42-9) on her way to the fourth-best result in school history and second-best in the Pac-12 this season. Once again, senior Felicia Renelus battled her way to third place in that event, jumping a career-record 12.59m (41-3.75) to claim the 10-best mark in Cal history and 4th-best in the conference this year.

For the men, it was freshman David Foster that posted the most impressive result of the day, racing to a personal-best 6.77 in the 60m dash to claim the win and tie for the second-fastest time in school history. Senior Josh Johnson also posted a win in his own event, throwing the shot put 18.47m (60-7.25) for a new Podium record, while sophomore Jeff Duensing took third with his heave of 18.13m (59-5.75). Meanwhile, junior Kamau Carlisle finished in second place in the men's long jump, leaping 7.15m (23-5.5) to earn another podium spot for the Bears.

Both of Cal's entries in the women's pole vault registered notable marks on the day. Junior Amari Turner tied for third place with her top height of 3.85m (12-7.50), a personal best in her career at Cal and eighth-best in school history, while sophomore Paige Martin tied for 10th in school history with a vault of 3.70m (12-1.5), a personal best. On the track, senior Ezinne Abba raised her standing on the school's 200m dash Top 10 list, moving up to the eighth spot with her PR of 24.52 and finishing third in the event. Fellow senior sprinter Maisie Stevens also moved up on a top 10 list, racing to a 60m time of 7.52 to tie the program's seventh-fastest result in history.

Two of the Bears' distance runners made their indoor debut on Saturday, with freshman Garrett MacQuiddy's burst of speed on the final lap winning him second place in the 800m run. His time of 1:51.41 stands as eighth in Cal history, as well as fourth in the conference this season. Sophomore Claire Yerby, meanwhile, posted a respectable mile time of 5:09.34 in her first indoor contest. Finally, freshman Tyler Burns reached the Pac-12's ninth-highest pole vault mark of the year, a height of 4.79m (15-8.5).
