Bears Participate In Bay Area Media Day

Feb 8, 2022
Cal baseball head coach Mike Neu and student-athletes Dylan Beavers and Josh White met with media Tuesday.

BERKELEY – The California baseball program participated in the 2022 Bay Area Baseball Media Day virtually on Tuesday morning.

The Golden Bears were represented by head coach Mike Neu, junior outfielder Dylan Beavers and junior right-handed pitcher Josh White. The trio met with attending media to preview Cal's upcoming 2022 season, which starts Friday, Feb. 18 at the MLB4 Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Neu has led Cal to a 98-79 (48-40 Pac-12) record in four seasons, including a 29-26 mark in 2021. The Bears reached the NCAA postseason in 2019.

Beavers and White have been recognized as preseason All-Americans over the past month following impressive sophomore seasons in Berkeley and summers with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. They are expected to anchor Cal's lineup and pitching rotation, respectively.

Beavers has earned consensus preseason All-America honors from five organizations – NCBWA, Baseball America, D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper – after establishing himself as one of the top outfielders in the country in 2021. The Paso Robles, California, native led the Pac-12 with 18 home runs, including 10 during conference play, and slashed .303/.401/.630 in 2021.

White nabbed a spot on the 2022 D1Baseball Preseason All-America second team. The Danville, California native was one of the Pac-12's most productive arms throughout 2021, posting the conference's second-lowest ERA (2.79) while striking out 81 batters in 61.1 innings pitched.
