Wildcats Drop Match to Spartans

East Lansing, Mich. - The Wildcats got their first loss of the season after a tough match against the Michigan State Spartans. This was the very first matchup between the two teams in each program's history.

Arizona dropped the doubles point after Parker Fry and Kayla Wilkins lost 6-3 to Nicole Stephens and Ayshe Can. The Spartans finalized the doubles point after Kirsten Prelle and Salma Ziouti were defeated 6-3 by Mary Lewis and Maja Pietrowicz. 

The Cats started to bounce back in singles play before ultimately losing 4-3. Ziouti grabbed the first point for Arizona winning 6-1, 6-4 against Pietrowicz. Fry was third off the court with another point for the Wildcats after she beat Lauren Lemonds 7-5, 6-3. Midori Castillo-Meza took the final point for Arizona when she defeated Can in two straight sets 7-5. 

Arizona's record now stands 3-1 and the Cats will reset as they head to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a match against Western Michigan tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. MST. This will be another first-ever matchup for both programs.
