Bryana Pizarro Called Up to Puerto Rican U20 Team
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Oregon State women's soccer forward Bryana Pizarro has been called up to the Puerto Rican U20 team to compete in their upcoming games in the 2022 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) Women's U20 Championship, which will be held from Feb. 25 to Mar. 12 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The draw for the 2022 CWU20, which revealed the participating teams in November, placed the Puerto Rican team in Group E, with the United States, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua. The tournament will begin with a 16-team group stage split into four groups of four teams. The top three teams will advance to a knockout stage. Those 12 teams will join four teams that advanced directly to the knockout round, which was decided from 2022 CWU20 Qualifying, held in September 2021.
At the close of the tournament, the champion, runner-up, and third-place finisher will qualify for the 2022 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica in August.
Pizarro logged 786 minutes on the pitch this season, including a game-high of 110 minutes against Oregon on Nov. 11. The Valley Stream, N.Y. native started seven of the ten games she appeared in and recorded three assists: two against North Dakota on Sept. 17 and one against UCLA on Oct. 15.
During the 2021 campaign, Oregon State posted a record of 11-7-1 (3-7-1 Pac-12), tying for most wins in a single season since 2011. The Beavers' season was highlighted by it's first road win in program history at Stanford on Sept. 30. OSU also tallied eight consecutive wins in non-conference action from Aug. 19 to Sept. 17, and totaled four shutouts on the season.
