LOS ANGELES – Savannah Pola cranked her first-career home run on Friday afternoon, powering the No, 3/3 UCLA softball team to a 5-0 victory against UCSD at Easton Stadium.

UCLA (2-0) was aided by two RBIs apiece from Kinsley Washington and Pola. The Bruins have now outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 27-0 after a 22-0 win over CSUN last night.

Redshirt junior Megan Faraimo was in the circle for the Bruins, putting up 5.0 scoreless innings and giving up just three hits on the day.

After a 1-2-3 top half from Faraimo, the Bruins put up their first run in the bottom of the first. Kelli Godin scored from second after utility Maya Brady reached on a fielding error.

The teams exchanged scoreless halves of the second inning and Faraimo left one stranded in the third. The Bruins came up and the bats came alive for a four-spot to make it 5-0. Kinsley Washington went opposite field for a two-run double and Savannah Pola followed with a two-run shot to right, her first-career home run.

Faraimo tossed two more shutout innings before finishing her outing with five scoreless frames, nine strikeouts and just one hit. Graduate transfer Lauren Shaw made her first appearance for the Bruins in the sixth. The Tritons loaded the bases, but Shaw induced a groundout to second to get out of the inning.

Shaw pitched a clean seventh inning, striking out Rilley Erickson to end the game.

UCLA is set to complete its double-header with a matchup against Nevada on Friday evening. The game is available to watch via live stream.
