No. 17 Arizona Sweeps NAU 7-0 in Doubleheader

Tucson, Ariz. - The Arizona Wildcats did not drop a single point in their doubleheader against NAU. The Cats won each match 7-0 and now lead the series 17-0. 

Arizona started off strong winning the doubles point in each match. Jared Horwood and Nick Lagaev secured the doubles point in the morning match after beating Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon 6-2. It was Carlos Hassey and Filip Malbasic who finalized the second doubles point of the day when they won 6-3 against Alex Groves and Dominik Buzonics. 

The Cats were on fire during singles play. Lagaev took the first singles of the day when he was 6-1 in two straight sets against Ziomber. Senior captain Conner Olsen snagged another singles point during the morning match after he swept Dani Torres 6-2, 6-0. Jett Middleton defeated Groves 6-2, 6-1 securing the fifth singles point of the morning match. 

No. 56 Herman Hoeyeraal took the first singles point of the afternoon match after beating Facundo Tumosa in two straight sets 6-2. Lagaev was next off the court winning 6-1, 6-1 against Groves. Horwood defeated Joachim Schaefer 6-3, 6-4, clinching in the second set. Freshman Colton Smith grabbed the very last point of the day after winning 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 against Buzonics. 

This wraps up the second doubleheader in a row for the Wildcats. They will play one more match at home on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, against UNLV before heading to Montgomery, Ala. for the Blue Gray Tennis Classic.
