Brianna Navarrosa, Amari Avery Lead No. 16 USC Women's Golf In Lamkin Opener
Freshman Amari Avery fired her first round in the 60s as a Trojan and sophomore Brianna Navarrosa posted a round under par as well to lead the No. 16 USC women's golf team during the 36-hole first day of the Lamkin Invitational on Monday (Feb. 14) at the Farms G.C. in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
USC is tied for eighth at 18-over 594 (301-293), one of just four teams to finish both rounds. Ten schools will finish their final handful of holes when play resumes Tuesday morning. Stanford is the only team under par at 2-under with San Jose State second (3-over) and Arizona State third (5-over).
Navarrosa is tied for 10th at par 144 (73-71) thanks to a pair of solid rounds. Her second round saw her go 4-under on the front 9 as she strives for her fourth top 25 this season.
Avery, in her first tournament action as a Trojan following a match play debut, opened with a 77 followed by a 4-under 68, her second round highlighted by four straight birdies between 8 and 11. She is tied for 12th at 1-over 145.
Sophomore Michaela Morard is tied for 42nd at 8-over 152 (76-76), freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou is tied for 45th at 9-over 153 (75-78) and senior Katherine Muzi is tied for 52nd at 11-over 155 (77-78).
