Wildcats In Crowded Middle of the Pack at Lamkin Invitational
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. –A strong front nine in the second round saw highlighted the Wildcats' day before the afternoon action of the Lamkin Invitational was called due to darkness. Arizona finished the day in 10th place at 25-over par. Arizona was led by freshman Lilas Pinthier in the day's opening round when she carded a round of 2-under, which put her in a tie for ninth going into Monday's second round.
"We were a bit up and down today with some stretches of good golf," said head coach Laura Ianello. "With three players in the top 35 entering Tuesday's final round, we are in a crowded pack of teams that we can separate from with a quality third round."
Freshman Carolina Melgrati was Arizona's top finisher after Monday's two rounds at The Farms Golf Club. She finished in a tie for 27th at 6-over par. The Wildcats are in a jumbled pack of five teams separated by a total of ten strokes on the leaderboards.
Arizona was at its best on the course's longest holes, finishing Monday ranked seventh in par-5 scoring at 4-over par. By Monday evening, the Wildcats also finished third in the field in pars.
The program will finish its second round on Tuesday morning before teeing off in the third and final round.
