Menne Leads Women's Golf at Lamkin Invitational

Feb 15, 2022

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Ashley Menne and Sun Devil Women's Golf delivered high finishes at the Lamkin Invitational.

Arizona State finished in third place, their best result in a qualifying tournament this season. In a field with nine teams in the latest Golfstat Top-25, the Sun Devils proved to be one of the best, beating out No. 4 Oregon, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona, and No. 14 UCLA. Battling darkness in the second round and rain in the final round today, the Maroon & Gold stayed focused until the very end.

"The course played very hard and we had difficult weather conditions with rain, wind and chilly temperatures," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "As a team, we had our best finish this year against a strong field. We let a few shots get away from us towards the end but overall a great tourney for us."

Ashley Menne put together a fantastic performance, finishing as the individual runner-up at the Lamkin Invitational. It is a career-best finish for Menne, who had several highlight moments on the course. Her 214 (-2) trailed only defending National Championship Rachel Heck from Stanford, as Menne beat out 17 of the Top-100 players in the latest Golfstat rankings.

"Ashley had her best finish this year," Farr-Kaye added. "She has been working really hard and it all came together for her this week!"

Overnight adjustments paid off immediately for Menne, as she came out on fire. A birdie on her second hole and eagle on a par five on the ninth hole put Menne at three under through three holes. She also delivered several great recovery shots, limiting damage and avoiding mistakes.

"I was able to Eagle 9 today as I hit the green in 2 and made my 12 footer," Ashley Menne mentioned. "I actually accidentally hit into Lexi's group and the ball rolled in between a girls leg's when she was putting…oops. In my defense it was a blind shot and I couldn't see the green. Though I made that Eagle I would say that the highlight of my round was my par save on 13. I hit my second shot into the water, dropped to 53yds then holed out from there!"

Menne 14 birdies over the three rounds were by far the most of any golfer, with no one else carding more than 11 birdies. She was brilliant on par three chances, producing a 2.67 scoring average, the second-best mark in the field. She also finished in the Top-10 in the field in scoring average on par four and par five opportunities, delivering a well-rounded performance.

"The tournament was a great second showing for the team," Menne observed. "Conditions were tough these last two days, with having to finish 36 in the dark and the rain and wind the second day. Overall I think we did a great job staying positive and controlling what we could."

Alexandra Forsterling and Calynne Rosholt each earned Top-20 finishes, ending in a tie for 16th. The duo has been extremely consistent this year, finishing in the Top-20 at all five events. Arizona State and Stanford were the only two teams to have three individual finish in the Top-25 of the loaded 75-golfer field.

"It was a great tournament and I am looking forward to the Darius Rucker," Menne conclued.
