QUICK HITS

  • Junior outfielder Dylan Beavers and junior right-handed pitcher Josh White were among 55 players named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list earlier this week. Cal was one of just eight programs nationally to have multiple players selected to the watch list. Beavers enters the 2022 season as a consensus preseason All-American while White was tabbed to the D1Baseball Preseason All-America Second Team.
  • Following a 29-26 (15-15 Pac-12) campaign in 2021, Cal was picked sixth in the 2022 Pac-12 preseason coaches' poll.
  • Seven starting position players return for the Bears, including senior catcher Cole Elvis (80 career games played, 14 home runs).
  • Backing the weekend rotation of White, Steven Zobac and Joseph King are experienced senior relievers Nick Proctor (42 career appearances) and Mitchell Scott (33 career appearances). Redshirt sophomore Aaron Roberts is expected to handle closing duties.
  • Head coach Mike Neu (98-79) needs just two wins to reach 100 in his Cal tenure (2018-present).
  • Of the 39 players on Cal's 2022 roster, 36 are from the state of California.
  • The Bears are 2-3 vs. Houston, 1-9 vs. TCU, 3-5 vs. San Diego State and 6-5 vs. Gonzaga all-time.
